Minnesota Wild

The Week in Hockey – November 13-19

It’s been a busy week in the NHL, and WildXtra has your weekly digest on the news and happenings, as well as a look ahead at next week.

15 Takeaways from the First 15 Games

The Wild are 15 games into the NHL Season, so let’s take a look at 15 things, both good and bad, about the team so far in 2016.

WildX Film Room: Winning The Battles, Winning The Game

Thursday night in Pittsburgh the Wild notched its most impressive win of the young season, defeating the previously unbeaten-at-home Penguins 4-2. Early in the third period, the line of Nino Niederreiter, Eric Staal, and Charlie Coyle struck for the game-winning goal. Let’s step back into the WildX Film Room and take a look at how it happened.

Lots of down time lately

Somebody asked me yesterday: How’s hockey season going? I had to pause. Hockey season… Oh! That’s right, the Wild are in month No. 2 of this 2016-17 season. It can get lost in the shuffle when a team has oodles of days off.

Super Suter

Happy Election Day everyone. Please go out and vote. But before that let's talk about Ryan Suter who has been a hot button topic among Minnesota Wild fans since he was signed in 2012 in regards to his ice time and overall performance. But has he found new life and a new role under Bruce Boudreau? Let's take a look.

Election Day

With the Wild next playing Thursday and today being of vital importance for the future of our country (whichever side you are on, I think a lot of us can say that), I’m coming to the voters of WildXtra to help me choose. Tomorrow the dust will clear and our country will move forward, embracing our new President (or not). For now, we look at the Candidates on the Wild roster, by jersey number.

Games are 60 minutes

Let’s review: NHL games, in regulation, are 60 minutes. That’s three periods that are 20 minutes each. There’s a five-minute overtime period if the score is tied after those 60 minutes. Just so we’re all clear on that.

Despite Hot Start, Wild Needs to Make Adjustments

The Minnesota Wild is off to a great start at 6-2-1 through its first nine games. And although the team has been electrifying to watch, it needs to make some big changes or the wins may not come as easy as they are now.

The one with all the scoring

First off, I hope some of you (*cough* Giles) enjoy the headline. This Minnesota team is scoring goals so far this season. This is a big deal. It may be a fundamental and pretty basic part of the game, scoring more goals than an opponent in order to get the win. That doesn’t mean it’s always easy to accomplish, of course. That’s why we’re all here in the blogosphere.

WX Halloween: Trick or Treat!

It’s the SPOOKY time of the year with lots of candy, so let’s have a quick look at what has been good and bad for the Wild 10 percent of the way through the season.

Tales From The Road

One of the benefits of my job is that I cover the entire country, and I primarily get to set my own travel schedule. So, I see a bunch of different games throughout the year, and naturally I try to take in a handful of Wild games in various cities. Here are some thoughts on being an enemy fan at a hockey game.

Wild 2017 RFA Tracker: October Update

Out of the Mike Berg playbook, we have another triptych for this year! The Wild have three key RFAs to be (four, if you count Christian Folin) next summer, and with the team tight to the cap already, it is likely one of them will not be back in a Wild uniform next season. This will be a monthly update, as we track the three players and how they are faring over the course of the season.
