Minnesota Wild Minor League Update: 3/23/16

Iowa made a trip out to the west coast and Quad City is slowly crawling their way up the standings in the ECHL. Find out how they did in this week's minor league update.

Overall record: 21-36-8 (7th in Central Division)

Friday March 18
at Stockton 5, Iowa 1

A bad first 23 minutes of this hockey game for Iowa resulted in four goals for Stockton, two of which came on the power play. The only thing of note for the Wild in this game, was that they accumulated 59 total penalty minutes, 44 of which came from three players (Graovac, Strachan, Gabriel).



Saturday March 19
at San Jose 3, Iowa 2 (OT)

The Barracuda opened the first period with a pair of goals, and took a 2-0 lead into the dressing room. But goals from Brett Bulmer and Christoph Bertschy 2:34 apart in the second, evened the score for Iowa. The game was scoreless in the third, despite Iowa being outshot 11-5. With just 1:32 remaining in the overtime, Jeremy Morin beat Leland Irving to hand Iowa their fourth straight loss.

-F Jared Knight was reassigned to Quad City on March 17.
-G Steve Michalek was recalled by Minnesota on March 18. He was returned to Iowa on March 22.
-G Martin Moody was signed to a PTO on March 18. He was released on March 19.

Quad City Mallards (ECHL)

Record this past week: 2-1-0
Overall record: 31-26-6 (3rd in Midwest Division)

Friday March 18
Quad City 2, at Fort Wayne 1

After Fort Wayne scored 3:05 into the game, the Mallards responded with a pair of goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Fort Wayne dominated the third period, but could not get any shots past PJ Musico and the Mallards held on for a 2-1 win.

Saturday March 19
Quad City 4, at Fort Wayne 3 (OT)

A pair of first period goals from Tanner Eberle had Quad City out 2-0 at the first intermission. However, the Komets were able to fire back and even the score at three in the second period, as the dominated the Mallards in the middle frame. The game was scoreless in the third and went to overtime where Austin Coldwell scored 1:46 into the extra session to win it for Quad City.

Sunday March 20
Indy 3, at Quad City 1

Jordan Knackstedt scored 3:34 into the game to put Quad City out ahead. However the Fuel scored three unanswered goals in the second period to put the game away. Quad City had 16 shots on goal in the third period, but could not get anything in behind the goaltender.

-D Richard Nedomlel was reassigned by St. Louis (NHL) from Chicago (AHL) to Quad City on March 17/
-F Jared Knight was reassigned by Iowa to Quad City on March 17.
-D Jake Baker was loaned to Manitoba on March 17.
-F JT Osborn was signed to an ATO on March 18. He was released on March 19.
