Minnesota Wild Minor League Update: 4/14/16

It was a rough weekend for Iowa, as they let a pair of games slip away in the final minutes. Meanwhile, Quad City was able to lock up their postseason appearance on Friday night. Find out who the Mallards play in the playoffs and more in this week's minor league update.

Friday April 8
at San Antonio 4, Iowa 3 (SO)

Mario Lucia scored his first goal as a pro with five minutes left in the second period to even the score at one. Iowa would eventually take a 3-2 lead in the third thanks to two Joe Finley goals, but Borna Rendulic knotted the score with 21 seconds remaining in the game. Overtime did not produce a winner, and the sixth and final shooter of the shootout was the deciding one as Ben Street beat Leland Irving for the extra point.



Saturday April 9
at San Antonio 4, Iowa 3 (OT)

Once again Iowa was unable to hold a late third period lead, as the Rampage scored with 35 seconds left in regulation. Garry Nunn scored 2:20 into the extra session to once again steal the extra point from Iowa. Colton Beck paced Iowa with two goals and an assist, while Marc Hagel and Zack Mitchell chipped in two points each.



Monday April 11
at Iowa 3, Grand Rapids 0

After the painful weekend where a pair of wins slipped away, Iowa came out with a purpose on Monday night. They were able to score a goal in each period while riding a 37 save shutout from Leland Irving to give them their first win over Grand Rapids this season.

Friday April 8
at Quad City 6, Cincinnati 3

Four goals in the third period for Quad City sealed the win, and a playoff berth, as they entered the final frame tied at two. Olivier Archambault and Brady Brassart each scored a pair of goals, while five other Mallards players each tallied a pair of points.

Saturday April 9
Cincinnati 4, at Quad City 3

A day after clinching a playoff spot, the Mallards could not climb out of a 3-0 hole in the third period, despite scoring three in the second to bring the score to one. Brody Hoffman made all 18 saves in relief of PJ Muscio, who was pulled 3:30 into the second period after allowing a fourth goal.

News and Notes

-Quad City will play Missouri in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The series will be a best of seven.
-Team captain Darren McMillan played his 415th and final regular season game for the Mallards on Saturday. He is retiring following the season.
