It is with a great deal of sadness that we must announce that Wild Xtra will cease to be an updated web site effective immediately. I want to thank all of our writers and forum contributors for the two-plus year run we had and invite you to continue following our writers as they move on to their next endeavors. I also want to explain why we’re shutting down.It takes an incredible amount of determination and passion to continue to provide in-depth content on a daily basis. The grind is constant and no matter how much talent or passion a person has, sooner or later there needs to be some tangible reward. That goal – reaching a tangible level such that the writers could feel in their hearts like their sacrifices were worth it – is why we started Wild Xtra (and before that, Twins Daily).

But the community didn’t develop as organically as we had hoped. Without the community, the natural benefits it provides – traffic, events, etc. – also didn’t develop. Enthusiasm waned and writers and management burned out. Looking ahead, we saw the community and site limping along without any future, and that isn’t fair to the people who are giving so much.

But there are other ways to continue to follow the writers you have enjoyed. Each one has an active Twitter feed, which you can get to by clicking on their names below. Follow them!
  • And you can continue to find where Brett Marshall is going to be writing by following him on Twitter.
  • And, of course, well keep the Wild Xtra twitter account live in case we have any news our our writers that we can pass along.
Please join me in wishing the writers the best in the next things they tackle. I have no doubt they are worth your time to track, and I sincerely hope they can find an organization that properly rewards their immense talents.

Yeah, I was half expecting this to happen with Northern Pitch and Vikings Journal shutting down. This site didn't have nearly the traffic that VJ did.

It's sad. I thought the content on this site was excellent, and the authors were great people. I was a little critical at times, but I, too, wanted this site to grow and improve, even if I was far too ignorant about hockey to help directly.

Thanks to the whole WX crew for sticking to it for this long! It was a great, albeit short, time.

Lame, just like VJ I think ultimately you guys failed them, cross promotion was non existent on TwinsDaily and there was never any real conscience effort to get people to this site, even the most basic of social media spends etc could have brought traffic.

This site, discussions and blogs will be greatly missed. Best of luck to everyone in their future projects.

FWIW, I agree with you. I think we (mostly I) failed them. Ultimately, I expected the growth to be more organic than it was, and when it became clear that we needed to invest a lot more time in the sites, I wasn't able to do it. I hope we can take another try sometime, mabye when we have a few more resources available.

Thanks to all who worked to put this site up, and for the content and knowledge they contributed.  I appreciate your efforts, and am sad to see it go.  I didn't spend much time at VJ, and not a great deal here, but it was a great place to go.  TD, however, is my second home address--- I hope that stays around for a long time to come!

Best wishes to all.

DaveW, kinda agree with you a bit on this.

I truly enjoyed this site, as I do the Twins site.  I will be very sad to see this go.  John et. all as you said, please let us know any new blog sites that the team of writers here come up with in addition to what you have told us.

Thanks everyone for your efforts

Go Wild.

This is sad although I'm not surprised about this news. The site never seemed to get the exposure it deserved.

Thank you for all the information and helping my little ClutterPuck blog get some exposure by promoting a few of my posts on here.

I wish the best of puck to everyone involved with WildXtra. It's a great idea and should be something that can work in the State of Hockey. I hope you do try again soon.

It would be cool to do some of the same things on the Wild that TwinsDaily does for the Twins as in the OffSeason & Prospect Handbooks.

I definitely understand the difficulty in writing and posting content consistently. Hopefully soon, I will be able to get something out at least once a week. I'm not sure if I could ever get to posting daily content or, at least, quality content.

Anyways, THANKS for trying and I hope this won't be the end of WildXtra.
